Project Description
Opay is one of Nigeria's leading mobile financial platforms, trusted by millions for fast transfers, bill payments, airtime/data top ups, savings (OWealth), debit cards, and more.
I redesigned the Opay app homepage (dashboard) to address common user frustrations with clutter, slow task discovery, and overwhelming visuals making everyday banking faster, cleaner, and more intuitive for daily users. This included reorganizing and clearly naming all service cards for better discoverability.
The Objective
The goal was to redesign the homepage to:
Reduce visual clutter and cognitive load
Make high-frequency actions (transfers, bill payments, history checks) instantly discoverable through clearly named cards
Improve glanceability and speed for mobile users
Build trust through a cleaner, more professional feel
The challenge: Opay's homepage had become overloaded with unnamed or poorly organized icons for loans, betting, rewards, games, and promotions making simple tasks like sending money or viewing history feel like navigating a maze.

Target Users
The redesign focused on:
Everyday Nigerians relying on Opay for daily transfers, bills, and airtime
Frequent users (commuters, small business owners, youth) who need speed and zero friction
People frustrated by buried features, too many icons, or hard to find transaction history
Users who prioritize quick, reliable transactions over promotional overload.

Design Strategy
The redesign followed a clear user flow on the homepage:
Quick scan → Task discovery → Confident action → Immediate feedback
Priorities shifted from promoting every service to:
Surfacing core banking first (balance, clearly named service cards, recent activity)
Reducing icon density
Using clear visual hierarchy for glanceability
This educates through simplicity, reassures with familiarity, and converts actions seamlessly.

Information Architecture (Homepage Focus)
The homepage was restructured as the central hub:
Top: Balance + security indicators
Service Cards: Clearly named and organized (e.g., Bank Transfer, Airtime & Data, Bills, Bet, Loan, Rewards, Games, etc.)
Recent transactions / history teaser
Bottom nav: Home, Services, History, More
High-frequency elements brought forward; secondary/promotional items de-emphasized or moved, with all cards properly named for clarity.

Wireframes
Early low-fidelity explorations tested:
Prioritizing balance + clearly named service cards at the top
Grid vs. card layouts for actions
CTA sizes and thumb-friendly placement
Ways to tease history without overwhelming

Homepage Breakdown
The design phase focused on clarity, structure, and visual guidance:
• Tools: Created the design in Framer to allow smooth prototyping and interactive testing.
• Card Layout: Each card was named and paired with icons Quick Actions, Services, Transaction History to guide users visually.
• Transaction History: Moved to a dedicated section with “See All” for progressive disclosure and reduced clutter.

Visual Direction
The visual system feels:
Clean and spacious
Modern yet approachable
Trustworthy (green for finance/safety, clear typography)
Fast and glanceable on any device
Reduced density, increased whitespace, consistent icon styles, and subtle accents guide the eye to what matters, with emphasis on readable card names.

Final Design
The redesigned homepage delivers:
Cleaner, lighter interface with focused, clearly named service cards
Instant access to transaction history and favorites
Less visual noise for faster decisions
Better hierarchy aligned with real user goals
Core tasks now feel effortless.

Impact
This homepage redesign transforms an overloaded, distracting dashboard into a streamlined, user-first experience helping Nigerians complete daily transactions faster, find history effortlessly, and feel more confident using Opay.
Key wins: Improved discoverability through clearly named cards, reduced frustration from clutter, stronger focus on primary banking needs, and a lighter overall feel that aligns with mobile constraints.
